Who Is a Chief Financial Officer?
A Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive and leader whose primary responsibility is managing the company’s finances and making strategic financial decisions. The CFO has full oversight of the company’s finance department and ensures that all financial operations and decisions are carried out efficiently, lawfully, and in line with the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Core Responsibilities of a CFO
- Develops the financial plan and strategy
- Oversees budget preparation and monitors budget execution
- Stays current with tax legislation and financial reporting standards
- Identifies, prevents, and manages financial risks
- Manages the structural organization of finances
- Conducts negotiations with investors and other stakeholders
- Protects the company’s interests with banking and other financial sector representatives
- In times of crisis, actively participates in managing the situation and leading the adaptation process
